8 best beach hotels in Norfolk

Beach hotels in Norfolk are ideal for travellers who want sand-and-sea relaxation without losing access to real city energy. Norfolk’s waterfront scene clusters around the downtown area, where the Waterside District offers waterfront dining and entertainment. Just nearby, Nauticus and the berthed Battleship Wisconsin make for memorable, family-friendly days on the water.

For classic beach time, look to Ocean View and East Beach—where the City of Norfolk maintains multiple beach parks, with facilities like parking, restrooms and shaded areas, plus seasonal events and live music. This is the sweet spot for couples, families and anyone who prioritises an easy walk to the shoreline, crabbing and boardwalk-style seaside evenings.

Choose your base based on how you like to travel: those aiming for an all-in-one break—beach mornings, then waterfront dining and attractions—generally do best staying close to Downtown Norfolk or the Waterside area. Meanwhile, if your trip is truly beach-led, prioritise Ocean View/East Beach access for a calmer, more coastal rhythm.
