6 best budget hotels in Elgin

Budget hotels in Elgin are best understood as places that keep the nightly cost sensible without cutting back on the essentials that matter: a clean room, a comfortable bed, a practical location, and a straightforward stay. In a town like Elgin, where visitors often come for short breaks, business trips, or as a base for exploring the wider area, budget-friendly accommodation is less about bare-bones service and more about good value for money.

That is why this list includes a mix of guest houses and small hotels with strong guest ratings, alongside familiar chain-style options. Places such as Heather Glen Guest House, Kilmorie House, Old Mills Garden, The Harbour Inn, Premier Inn Elgin, Sunninghill, Southbank Guesthouse and Laichmoray Hotel show that “budget” does not have to mean poor quality. In practice, the best budget hotels are usually those that balance price with reliability, offering the basics travellers need without unnecessary extras that push costs up.

These stays suit solo travellers, couples, families, and anyone who would rather spend more of their budget on the trip itself than on the room. They are also a sensible choice for short stays, overnight stops, and work visits, when convenience and value matter more than luxury. In Elgin, the strongest budget options tend to be the ones that feel simple, well kept, and consistently rated well by guests.
