Copiapo hotels like a local.
Copiapó is Chile’s desert-spot base for mining history, white-sand coast day trips, high-Andean lagoons and, in good rainfall years, the Atacama flowering desert.

About Copiapo
You come to Copiapó for a practical Atacama Region base rather than a resort break. Founded as San Francisco de Copiapó de la Selva on 8 December 1744, the city is still shaped by mining, desert valleys and routes out to the coast and Andes. Stay centrally if you want museums, the cathedral, restaurants and bus access close by, or choose road-corridor hotels if you’re driving to Bahía Inglesa, Parque Nacional Desierto Florido, Mina San José or Parque Nacional Nevado de Tres Cruces.
