Kassel hotels like a local.
Kassel is Germany’s quietly brilliant documenta city, where contemporary art, Grimm history and a UNESCO hillside park sit a tram ride apart.
About Kassel
Set on the Fulda River in northern Hesse, Kassel works best as a compact cultural base rather than a preserved old-town break. You come for documenta, founded in 1955 and next scheduled for 12 June to 19 September 2027, plus Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe with Hercules, woodland, palaces and gravity-fed water features. Add GRIMMWELT, the Fridericianum and Karlsaue, and you’ve got a strong two-night city with good tram links and plenty of green space.
