Mérida hotels like a local.
Mérida is Yucatán’s heat-soaked cultural capital, with Maya roots, pastel colonial streets, henequen-era mansions and public music most nights.
About Mérida
You come to Mérida for a city break with depth: Plaza Grande and the cathedral anchor the historic centre, Paseo de Montejo shows off grand mansions, and nearby trips can take you to Dzibilchaltún, Uxmal, cenotes and Progreso. The city is the capital of Yucatán, known as La Ciudad Blanca, and was founded on January 6, 1542 by Francisco de Montejo “El Mozo” over the Maya settlement of T’hó, also called Ichcaanzihó. It’s generally good value by major Mexican city standards, with simple central hotels, mid-range business options and boutique-luxury stays all in the mix.
