About Bilbao
Bilbao sits in Bizkaia in Spain’s Basque Country, and you’ll feel both its Basque identity and its post-industrial reinvention quickly. The Guggenheim Museum is the best-known international marker, but the city works because everything else is close too: the medieval Casco Viejo, the 19th-century Ensanche, riverside architecture, markets, football culture and straightforward metro-and-bus links. You can do a compact weekend, though a slower stay gives you more room for museums, pintxos and a coast trip by public transport.
