1. Save every destination in Chinese before you leave the hotel: 茂名站 for Maoming Station, 中国第一滩 for China First Beach, 浪漫海岸 for Romantic Coast and 露天矿生态公园 for Open-Pit Mine Ecological Park.
2. Use Maoming Station as your transport anchor, because it is the central rail station, the airport city terminal is at its South Square and longer bus routes start around the station area.
3. Check beach and island conditions before swimming or ferrying. Summer storms and typhoons can affect the coast, and Fangji Island has had recent -closure notices.
4. Come in lychee season if fruit matters to you, because Maoming China’s largest lychee production base.
5. Treat hotel prices as date-sensitive but generally good value, with central rooms often much cheaper than in larger Guangdong coastal cities and resort properties rising on weekends and holidays.
