1. Pick your side of the river before you pick your hotel: Wuchang for Yellow Crane Tower, Hubu Lane, Hubei Provincial Museum, East Lake and Wuhan University; Hankou for Jianghan Road, the riverfront and airport convenience; Hanyang for expo business and quieter river views.
2. Reserve Hubei Provincial Museum before you build the day around it. The museum says real-name reservations are required, tickets are free and bookings can be made up to five days in advance.
3. Do breakfast early. Wuhan’s signature food culture is morning-heavy, with hot dry noodles, doupi and steamed dumplings best tackled before the day gets going.
4. Use the ferry for views, not speed. The Wuhanguan–Zhonghua Road crossing is scenic, but the metro is more reliable for tight schedules.
5. Check Wuhan University cherry-blossom rules every year, as peak bloom access has used official online reservations via the university website or WeChat.
