Derfor skal du bo nær Namibia Craft Centre
The Namibia Craft Centre is an indoor craft market and retail hub in Windhoek Central, housed in the former Old Breweries Complex on Tal Street. Travellers come to buy handmade Namibian crafts directly from local producers rather than imported souvenirs. Around 40 permanent stalls are run by women-owned businesses, community projects, and rural artisans selling jewelry, baskets, carvings, and textiles. What sets it apart is how organized and contained it is: an enclosed, year-round space with fixed stalls, on-site parking, an art gallery, and a café, all under one roof. It’s easy to fit into a day of sightseeing in central Windhoek without needing a car or much planning.
Om Namibia Craft Centre
The Namibia Craft Centre opened in 1990 as a dedicated indoor marketplace designed to give Namibian artisans, many from rural areas, a stable place to sell their work. Instead of informal street vending, the centre repurposed the Old Breweries building to house permanent craft stalls in a structured setting. In 1996, management shifted to the Rossing Foundation, which led a major redevelopment. The upgraded centre reopened in 1997 with improved facilities and the addition of the Omba Gallery, a small exhibition space for original Namibian fine art. Further expansion followed in 1999 to accommodate growing demand from vendors. Today, the centre functions as a long-running support platform for Namibian craft production and small businesses. When you visit, you browse permanent indoor stalls selling beadwork, ostrich-eggshell jewelry, leather goods, wire art, wood and root carvings, woven baskets, textiles, dolls, gemstones, and small artworks, with a café on site for a break.
