Why stay near Amerant Bank Arena
Amerant Bank Arena is a large indoor sports and entertainment arena in Sunrise, Florida, about 12 miles west of downtown Fort Lauderdale. It’s best known as the home rink of the NHL’s Florida Panthers and as a regular stop for major concert tours and family shows. The arena was built specifically for professional hockey and large-scale events, with highway access that pulls crowds from across South Florida. You don’t come here to browse or sightsee — you come for a game or a show, arrive close to start time, and leave when it’s over.
About Amerant Bank Arena
Amerant Bank Arena opened on October 3, 1998, created to give the Florida Panthers a permanent home after their early seasons in Miami. Planning began in the early 1990s once team founder H. Wayne Huizenga secured the NHL franchise, and the Sunrise site was chosen in 1996 to allow fast construction. The building went up in about 26 months and was ready for the 1998–99 NHL season.
Today, it remains the Panthers’ full-time home and one of South Florida’s main indoor venues. The calendar is dominated by NHL games, but it also hosts national concert tours, family shows like Disney On Ice, and other large public events. Architecturally, it’s practical rather than historic: wide concourses, multiple seating levels, suites and club seating, and layouts that shift depending on whether you’re attending hockey or a concert. What you experience inside depends entirely on the event you’ve booked.
