Por qué alojarse cerca de Panometer Leipzig
Panometer Leipzig is a former city gasometer in south Leipzig that’s been turned into a space for monumental 360‑degree panoramas by artist Yadegar Asisi. You’re not walking from room to room here. Instead, you stand inside a single cylindrical hall and look out from a central tower into a wraparound scene at full scale. The most distinctive thing is the building itself: a 32‑metre‑high industrial shell that makes the artwork feel architectural, not just visual. People come to slow down, stay in one place, and let light, sound, and perspective do the work over time rather than chasing highlights.
Sobre Panometer Leipzig
The Panometer building was constructed in 1909–1910 as Gasometer II, part of Leipzig’s municipal gasworks, and remained in use until 1977. After standing empty for decades, it was renovated in 2002–2003 and reopened in 2003 as the world’s first gasometer converted into a panoramic art venue by Yadegar Asisi. That conversion matters: Leipzig was the testing ground for a format that later expanded to Berlin and Dresden.
Inside, you experience a single large‑scale panorama at a time, viewed from a central platform. The scenes are designed at 1:1 scale, with lighting and sound that change gradually to suggest different times of day. Over the years, exhibitions have ranged from historical reconstructions like LEIPZIG 1813 to natural environments such as EVEREST and the Great Barrier Reef. Around the base of the hall, a documentary‑style exhibition adds context with texts, images, and background research tied directly to the panorama above.
