Waarom Goedkope hotels, en waarom hier
Budget hotels in Funchal suit travellers who want a comfortable base without paying premium city-centre prices, while still being close to the action. Funchal’s appeal comes from its compact mix of Old Town streets and seafront life: you can stroll in the historic centre around Praça do Município and then head to the Lido Bathing Complex, a landmark seaside spot next to the promenade. For a more relaxed, family-friendly day at the water, the Ponta Gorda Bathing Complex sits in the tourist zone by the public seafront promenade.
A genuinely budget-friendly stay here means good value essentials: straightforward rooms or apartments, reliable reviews, practical check-in, and easy access to walking routes or local transport (rather than “luxury extras”). It’s ideal for couples and solo travellers who plan to be out all day, as well as families seeking self-catering options.
For practical “where to stay”, consider lively seafront areas like around Lido and Ponta Gorda for quick beach access, or look for value properties such as Villa Bom Sucesso (2★) or Fenix Ocean View in Funchal (2★) for an efficient base. Where you want more independence, apartments like Babosas Village by Our Madeira (3★) or Casa dos Avós Apartments (1★) suit travellers who prefer space and flexibility over hotel facilities.
