Waarom Berghotels, en waarom hier
Mountain hotels in Rethymno are best understood as places that give you a stronger sense of the island’s inland landscape, with a quieter setting, more space, and easy access to the hills and villages beyond the coast. In practice, that can mean villas, suites, or small resorts rather than large beachfront hotels, and it often suits travellers who want a calmer base for exploring, walking, or simply enjoying a more rural stay. Rethymno itself offers a varied backdrop, with the town and coast providing convenience, while the surrounding countryside opens out into a more traditional Crete.
The hotels in this list reflect that mix. Some, such as Arcus Suites and Arbora Olea Luxury Resort, suggest a more refined stay, while places like Belvedere Villas, Iron Villas Crete, and Yanni's Villas point towards a more private, self-contained option. Others, including Pietra Di Mare, Plakias Bay Hotel, and Coconut Palm Paradise, offer different levels of comfort and style, but still fit the appeal of staying away from the busiest parts of the resort scene. Across the list, the common thread is a peaceful setting and a base that works well for guests who value scenery, independence, and a slower pace.
These hotels are a good fit for couples, families, and independent travellers who prefer atmosphere over high-rise convenience, and who want to make the most of Rethymno’s inland character as well as its wider region.
