1. Reserve the headline lifts early, but stay flexible. Aiguille du Midi and Montenvers are weather-dependent, so go on the clearest suitable morning rather than saving them for your last day.
2. Use the train more than you think. The Mont-Blanc Express links the valley villages, and the Carte d’Hôte covers internal train journeys between Servoz and Vallorcine.
3. Match your base to your lift: Les Praz for Flégère, Argentière for Grands Montets, Les Houches for family skiing and Vallorcine or Le Tour for Balme’s quieter ski-nature feel.
4. Do not assume the Carte d’Hôte means free buses. It is not a bus ticket, and you need a discounted bus pass unless you have a valid qualifying ski pass or Multipass.
5. Check mountain conditions before hiking, skiing off-piste or climbing. The Office de Haute Montagne / La Chamoniarde provides route conditions, maps, hut contacts, lift-access information, weather and avalanche-risk reports.
