Neden burada kalmalı — Great Sight over Sofia
Great Sight over Sofia is the informal name travelers use for the panoramic viewpoint at Kopitoto (Копитото) on Vitosha Mountain. Sitting high above the city on Vitosha’s northern slopes, it’s where locals drive or hike when they want a clear, wide look over the entire Sofia valley. The defining feature is the Vitosha TV Tower, which marks the spot and helps make the viewpoint easy to find. There’s no formal attraction setup here — no gates, no ticket desk, no schedule. You come for the view, especially late in the day, when the city stretches out below and the light changes across the valley.
Hakkında — Great Sight over Sofia
Kopitoto takes its name from a hoof-shaped rock formation where the Vitosha TV Tower stands. The tower was built in the mid‑1980s as part of Bulgaria’s national broadcasting network and rises 186 meters, making it one of the country’s tallest structures. Its base sits roughly 1,345–1,348 meters above sea level, which explains why the view over Sofia is so open and far‑reaching.
This was never designed as a tourist site. There’s no visitor center and no managed facilities; the infrastructure here serves broadcasting, not sightseeing. An older cable car once linked Kopitoto with Knyazhevo between 1962 and the early 1990s, but it no longer operates. Today, visitors reach the viewpoint by car or on foot. What you experience is simple: a paved pull‑off near the tower, forested surroundings, and uninterrupted city views, with the Balkan Mountains visible to the north on clear days.
