The heart of the place is a shaded garden filled with hammocks, shared tables, and a communal kitchen, with tents and tipis set up around the edges. Dormitory rooms sleep around six to eight people and are air‑conditioned, while the tents and glamping tipis rely on fans. There are also a limited number of private rooms, some located a couple of blocks away from the main garden.

Staying here feels communal without being loud. Evenings tend to revolve around the garden, while days are quieter as guests head to the beach or tours. The hostel sits about a ten‑minute walk from Holbox Centro and roughly two minutes on foot from Playa Holbox, making it easy to balance beach time with meals and errands in town.

You reach Isla Holbox by ferry from Chiquilá. From the Holbox ferry pier, Mapache Hostel is about a ten‑minute walk, or a short ride by golf‑cart taxi. It’s located near the corner of Calle Sierra and Calle Gerónimo de Aguilar. There are no cars on Holbox, so walking, biking, or golf carts are the only options.
