Neden burada kalmalı — Chelsea Market
Chelsea Market is a large indoor food hall inside a former factory block at 75 Ninth Avenue, between West 15th and 16th Streets, in Manhattan. People come mainly to eat their way through dozens of independent vendors selling prepared meals, baked goods, seafood, and specialty groceries, all under one roof. What makes it distinctive is the building itself: you walk through a preserved industrial space where original brick, steel beams, and old factory signage are still visible. It’s less a single attraction than a place to wander, snack, and take in a working piece of New York’s industrial past.
Hakkında — Chelsea Market
The building that houses Chelsea Market was constructed in stages from the 1890s through the early 1900s for the National Biscuit Company, better known as Nabisco. This is where products like Uneeda Biscuits and Oreo cookies were developed and produced, with freight trains once running directly through the block to deliver ingredients. After Nabisco left New York in 1957, the complex declined before being redeveloped in the 1990s. Chelsea Market opened as a public food hall in 1997. Today, the ground floor operates as an open marketplace, while the upper levels are offices. As you walk through the central concourse, you’ll see exposed mechanical systems, faded wall graphics referencing Nabisco-era brands, and other industrial details intentionally left in place. The former elevated rail line that once served the factory now forms part of the High Line park, which runs directly above and alongside the market.
