Warum du in der Nähe von Chiapas übernachten solltest
Chiapas (DIE Wasserbahn) is a large log flume ride inside Phantasialand, the theme park in Brühl, about 20 km southwest of Cologne. People come for one clear reason: its 53° final drop, described by the park as the steepest on any log flume worldwide. The ride runs for just under six minutes and mixes forward sections, backward drops, and indoor scenes themed around a fictional Mexican archaeological dig. It’s a headline attraction for thrill‑seekers, but it’s also designed to operate reliably in cooler weather thanks to enclosed sections and controlled braking.
Über Chiapas
Chiapas opened on 1 April 2014 in Phantasialand’s Mexico themed area, replacing the older Stonewash and Wildwash Creek water rides that were removed in 2011. The project marked a shift toward more technically complex attractions at the park. Designed and built by Intamin, the ride uses track switches to reverse direction mid‑course and magnetic braking instead of water resistance. This engineering allows steeper drops and precise control, including the signature 53° descent. Along the route you pass outdoor waterways, dark tunnels, and indoor show scenes, all set to a custom orchestral soundtrack recorded by the Budapest Film Orchestra. The combination of steep gradients, backward motion, and detailed theming is what makes Chiapas stand out within Phantasialand’s lineup.
